Benefits Of Laughter
We all love to laugh but we don’t do it nearly as much as we should. Stress, work, money problems – they all kill our ability and our compulsion to laugh. But there are so many benefits of laughing that we really should make an effort and smile and laugh more. I’ll list just a few of the benefits of laughter to show you why it is essential and why we should laugh more.
Laughter is the best medicine
Suzanne Steinbaum, D.O., an attending cardiologist and director of women and heart disease at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City said that research suggests laughter can decrease stress hormones, reduce artery inflammation and increase HDL, the “good” cholesterol.
Also, laughter might be as good as pain medicine and was used to distract patients from the pain of surgery and to help them during recovery.
It also may reduce your blood pressure, reduce anxiety and boost your immune system.
Laughing burns calories
A 2014 study in the International Journal of Obesity found that laughter can burn calories. Maciej Buchowski, Ph.D., found that laughing raises energy expenditure and increases heart rate 10 percent to 20 percent. Ten to 15 minutes of laughter could increase energy expenditure by 10 to 40 calories per day, which could translate into about four pounds a year.
How To Make Someone Laugh
You don’t have to make a fool out of yourself to make someone laugh but you could do some good old physical comedy to get things going. You don’t have to go as far as The Three Stooges though.
Learn a few funny jokes that will come in handy to lighten up a situation. I’ve heard soooo many jokes in my life but I never seem to be able to remember any afterward. That’s why I’m making a concerted effort now to always have a few really funny jokes up my sleeve.
Without further ado, here are 80 laughter quotes that will reaffirm why laughing is a vital part of our lives.
